Why Doubt When You Can Dream

Heidi Hudicka

I just finished watching part one of a two part video series from CarrotNewYork titled, Girls Inspired: Taking Risks. Part one is a series of quick soundbites of eight successful women in leadership that are sharing advice to all women. After watching this video, I realized how important it is to have successful women role models that can encourage us girls in continuing to pursue our dreams even when we are faced with boundaries.

As Marsha Butler, Global Vice President of Colgate, said in her interview during this video, “Envision where and what you would like to do. Envision how you will get there and don’t worry about the boundaries.” By never giving up, we can keep dreaming and become who we want to be.

FizzeeLabs - Heidi.pngWhen I was 4 years old, I had a dream of becoming a fashion designer. I wanted to create clothes for my dolls that even I would want to wear. The doll clothes being sold on the market didn’t represent who I was. So I thought, how about if I give it a try. I had many obstacles in my way--I was 4 years old, I didn’t know how to measure, I didn’t know how to sew, I had no idea how to create a pattern and on top of it all, my mom didn’t know how to sew either. But all of this didn’t stop me! With the help of my mom and of course YouTube, I was able to watch videos and learn to create and sew clothes. I also watched and read stories of famous fashion designers like Coco Chanel. I became inspired and I my dream of being a fashion designer came true!

At 4 years old, I had my own website and I was selling clothes that I created to customers. I didn’t let fear or obstacles stop my vision. As Ellen Grauer, CEO of Ellen Grauer Court Reporting Co. LLC., stated in her  Girls Inspired: Taking Risks interview, “Five seconds of fear can open a lifetime of success.”

Stories like mine, and those of many successful women, need to be shared so when there are times of self-doubt and discouragement, we can reflect on these positive role models experiences and continue with ours and keep dreaming! Click here to learn more about the rest of my journey.
