How to apply

Fill out the online application.  You will be asked about the race/ethinicity and socioeconomic status of your school’s populations (if you don’t know, check the Center for Education Statistics).  Include the year the information was collected.
Upload your Personal Statement --

(no more than two [2] single-spaced pages). Explain your interest in this program, describing your passion for and experience in working with culturally and linguistically diverse students amd upload with your application.

Upload your Professional Résumé. Provide details about your teaching experience, your education, and your community involvement and include with your application.

Find 2 recommenders -- administrator and other -- who will confirm your potential to effectively use and share the information learned as a Scholar with your students, school, and community. Send them to this site to fill out the form and upload a letter of recommendation.
 
 

 

 

 

The Javits-Frasier Scholars Program is a unique professional development opportunity for teachers, school counselors/psychologists, and others who work in Title I schools and are passionate about helping all gifted children.

Please read below for criteria and submissions materials needed. Applicants will use the online application. Applicants' recommenders will each complete the online recommendation form.

Selection Criteria
  • Teachers, school counselors, or school psychologists should apply. Educators from culturally and ethnically diverse backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Applicant must work in a Title I School.
  • Applicant has not previously attended an NAGC Convention.
  • Applicant may receive this award only once.
  • Applicant must be new (1-2 years of experience) to teaching and/or new to gifted/talented education.
  • Applicants currently pursuing a certificate, endorsement, or advanced degree will not be considered
Scholarship recipients receive professional development opportunities that include:
  • Travel stipend (plus hotel) to attend the NAGC Annual Convention
  • Complimentary registration to the NAGC Annual Convention
  • Professional Mentor from the NAGC community
  • A full two-year membership in NAGC
  • A chance to make a difference

Criteria to determine recipients

  • Teachers, school psychologists, or school counselors who work in a Title I school.
  • Solid evidence of desire and commitment to advocate for and develop the gifts and talents of culturally and linguistically diverse students.
  • Clear indication of potential to serve as an educational leader for culturally and linguistically diverse students in the school and community setting.
  • Strong capacity to become educationally productive in ways that meet the learning needs of gifted students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
