The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) announced the winners of the first annual NAGC Book of the Year Award, recognizing excellence in books published in gifted and talented education.

“High quality publications are important to the field of gifted education,” said M. René Islas, executive director of NAGC. “From parents looking for answers and policy makers needing information to teachers who receive little training in giftedness, these books are valuable and trustworthy resources.”

The 2017 NAGC Book of the Year Award winners are:

Excellence Gaps in Education: Expanding Opportunities for Talented Students (Harvard Education Press) by Jonathan A. Plucker & Scott J. Peters

Practitioner
Curriculum Compacting: A Guide to Differentiating Curriculum and Instruction Through Enrichment and Acceleration (2nd ed.) (Prufrock Press, Inc.) by Sally M. Reis, Joseph S. Renzulli, & Deborah E. Burns.

Parent/Caregiver
Breaking Through! Helping Girls Succeed in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (Prufrock Press, Inc.) by Harriet S. Mosatche , Elizabeth K. Lawner & Susan Matloff-Nieves

Nominations for the 2018 NAGC Book of the Year Awards will open January 9, 2018. Eligible publications must have a 2017 copyright date.
