The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) today announced Heather Vaughn will receive the 2017 Masters and Specialist Award at the NAGC 64th Annual Convention in Charlotte, NC, November 9-12, 2017. Ms. Vaughn, Assistant Director of Advanced Academics, The University of Texas at Austin, UT High School, was selected because of her wide-ranging work on behalf of gifted children and her commitment to her own continuing education.  

“NAGC is committed to providing opportunities and resources to better understand and serve all gifted and talented children,” said M. René Islas, NAGC Executive Director. “The awards program shines a light on those who are making a difference in supporting gifted children as they reach to achieve their personal best.”

The Master’s and Specialist Award, presented by Kendall Hunt, is awarded to those who support gifted children in several areas while also furthering their own learning about the nature and needs of gifted students.  Recipients might, for instance, provide teacher training, create gifted curriculum, write for publications on gifted education, and mentor students.

“I am both incredibly thrilled and thoroughly humbled to have my contributions to the gifted community recognized by the foremost authority in gifted education in the nation,” said Ms. Vaughn. “I look forward to continuing the efforts to advance opportunities for gifted and talented students and their respective families and teachers.”
