The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) today announced Del Siegle will receive a 2018 NAGC Distinguished Scholar Award at the NAGC 65th Annual Convention in Minneapolis, MN, November 15-18, 2018.

“The awards program shines a light on those who are making a difference in supporting gifted children as they reach to achieve their personal best, and Del is an influential leader in gifted education research,” said M. René Islas, NAGC Executive Director. “His work, which promotes equity and access, provided the foundation for the Giftedness Knows No Boundaries campaign.”

Dr. Siegle, an Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs and Director, National Center for Research on Gifted Education, at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, has made significant contributions to the field of knowledge regarding the education of gifted and talented individuals. He is a past president of NAGC, and he most recently served as the co-editor of the premier research journal, Gifted Child Quarterly.

“The Center has demonstrated important, if sobering, findings about inequitable access to gifted programs for students from underserved populations,” said Catherine Little, a UConn professor who nominated Dr. Siegle for the award. “As a field, we have been aware of this issue for many years, but his work with the Center team is documenting the issue in ways that can increase understanding and inform policy and program development to address the problem.”
