Statement from the NAGC Board of Directors on Anti-Asian Racism
March 31, 2021

The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) unequivocally denounces racial injustice and the systemic racism against Asians in America that plague our country.

We are deeply saddened and disturbed by the tragic, senseless shootings in Atlanta that cost eight people their lives and the ongoing anti-Asian racism occurring around the United States. Acts of violence against Asian Americans are traumatic not only for the families of the victims but also for our students, friends, and colleagues in the Asian American community.

NAGC condemns all acts of violence and discrimination directed toward members of the Asian American community. In the same way we fight discrimination and violence against minoritized and marginalized individuals in any community, we stand united against anti-Asian racism and violence.

NAGC stands in solidarity with all Asians, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders in this dark time and rebukes all who commit or promote racist acts against them in the community, the workplace, and in schools. Racism is a public health crisis, and NAGC stands with our colleagues, students, and families in the Asian American community as they experience this painful discrimination and violence.
