The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) today announced Thomas Hébert, a Professor of Gifted and Talented Education in the College of Education at the University of South Carolina, and James L. Moore III, Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion and the EHE Distinguished Professor, Department of Educational Studies at The Ohio State University, will receive the 2019 NAGC Distinguished Scholar Award.

“The awards program shines a light on those who are making a difference in supporting gifted children as they reach to achieve their personal best, and Drs. Hébert and Moore are influential leaders in gifted education research,” said Sally Krisel, NAGC Board President.

Dr. Hébert has consistently published in highly respected gifted educational journals over the last two decades. His book, Understanding the Social and Emotional Lives of Gifted Students, is used in a majority of the gifted education degree programs, and his work is helping educators, parents, and counselors understand both the psychological and learning characteristics of academically talented students. 

Dr. Moore has published five books, and he has won numerous awards for his work on gifted African American males. He serves as OSU's primary thought leader on diversity and inclusion matters and has helped develop and implement the strategic diversity vision for the university.

Drs. Hébert and Moore will be recognized at the NAGC 66th Annual Convention in Albuquerque, NM, November 7-10, 2019.
