The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) recognized Jacqueline Barone, principal of the Piedmont IB Middle School, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, as the 2017 Administrator of the Year.

Principal Barone was selected because of her commitment to the gifted students in her school.  She will receive the award at the NAGC 64th Annual Convention (NAGC17) in Charlotte, NC, November 9-12, 2017. The Administrator of the Year Award is presented by Ball State University.

“NAGC is committed to providing opportunities and resources to better understand and serve all gifted and talented children,” said M. René Islas, NAGC Executive Director. “The awards program shines a light on those who are making a difference in supporting gifted children as they reach to achieve their personal best.”

The Administrator Award is presented to an administrator outside the field of gifted education who has provided continuing support to the gifted students in her school, district, or across the nation.  Supportive and committed administrators are critical to the success of all gifted and talented students.

“One of the most remarkable environments I have ever visited is Piedmont IB Middle School,” said Sneha Shah-Coltrane, Director of Advanced Learning and Gifted Education with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.  “I strongly believe that this school thrives with the inspired and determined leadership of Principal Barone. This national award is a well-deserved recognition for her support of accelerated programming and gifted students.”
