The  National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) applauds federal lawmakers for finalizing the fiscal 2020 appropriations bill. Most important, funding for the Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Program was increased to $13 million. The Javits program is the only dedicated federal funding stream committed specifically to gifted and talented students.

“Research is clear that the academic needs of gifted and talented students are rarely met in regular classrooms, and the Javits funding has proven to be particularly important in our efforts to support the vulnerable minority and low-income gifted students who are too often overlooked,” said Jonathan Plucker, Board President of the National Association for Gifted Children.

“We need to expand availability and access to gifted programs and services. Javits funding has helped researchers and educators identify a range of strategies that provide opportunity to all gifted students.”
