NAGC Partners with BloomBoard to Launch Competency-Based Gifted Education Micro-Credentials
April 17, 2018

The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), a non-profit, membership organization whose mission is to support those who enhance the growth and development of gifted and talented children, has launched a new gifted education micro-credential offering. BloomBoard, the leading provider of competency-based professional learning, supports the new NAGC Micro-Credentials Program with a platform that enables personalized, high-quality, and outcomes-based professional development supported by coaching for all educators.

The NAGC Micro-Credentials Program was developed over the past year to fill a sizeable gap in accessible professional development content to help educators better identify high-potential students from diverse backgrounds and to meet their unique learning needs. By providing affordable, accessible, and outcome-oriented content from experts in the field, NAGC micro-credentials are designed to help classroom teachers develop, implement, and master skills to effectively work with gifted children.

“Years of survey data have told us that a gap exists in terms of the number of teachers who are adequately prepared and trained to work with gifted children and the needs of those children,” said M. René Islas, NAGC Executive Director. “The NAGC micro-credentials enable teachers to learn by doing and focuses on mastery of content and not the amount of time spent in a seat.”

“NAGC represents the caliber of thought leaders that educators have come to expect BloomBoard to partner with, and we’re excited to support them in developing and implementing these new micro-credentials,” said Sanford Kenyon, CEO of BloomBoard. “Micro-credentials are a great way to provide job-embedded, hands-on professional learning experiences that enable educators to apply their learnings in their practice. The NAGC micro-credentials will help educators develop the core competencies they need for working with gifted children.”
