NAGC Congratulates 2021 Distinguished Scholar Award Recipient

The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) is pleased to announce the 2021 NAGC Distinguished Scholar. Each year, the association recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the field of gifted education and to the development of the organization for more than 10 years and a record of ongoing scholarly productivity.

This year’s recipient is E. Jean Gubbins, Ph.D., Professor, University of Connecticut. Dr. Gubbins implemented research studies focusing on the curricular strategies and practices in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) high schools, reading and mathematics education in elementary schools, professional development, and gifted education pedagogy for all students. She is the Principal Investigator of Thinking Like Mathematicians: Challenging All Grade 3 Students and co-Principal Investigator of Project BUMP UP: Building Up Mathematics Proficiency Utilizing Push-in. Both research projects are funded under the Jacob K. Javits Gifted Education Program.

“NAGC has a long history of dedicated members who have worked tirelessly to advance the field of gifted education and support our gifted students. I congratulate Dr. Gubbins and look forward to recognizing her achievements during the Celebration of Excellence during the NAGC Annual Convention in November,” said Lauri Kirsch, NAGC Board President.
