The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) has named Erinn Fears Floyd, Ph.D., its new director of professional learning. Dr. Floyd has nearly 26 years of experience in education. She has conducted professional learning for leaders in education in the areas of school improvement, strategic instruction, literacy, diversity and equity, gifted identification, and been an advocate for educators, school leaders, and parents both nationally and internationally.

“NAGC is delighted to have a leader like Erinn join our team,” said NAGC Executive Director M. René Islas. “NAGC has a commitment to supporting the implementation of effective educational practices that improve the learning lives of gifted students. Erinn will continue the growth and development of NAGC’s educator development programs, including the Giftedness Knows No Boundaries Micro-Credentials, and build a suite of services for states, districts, and schools to create learning environments where all children will thrive.”

Dr. Floyd’s scholarship and research focuses on racial equity in gifted education, educator efficacy, equity and diversity training for educators, mentoring, and identification of all gifted African-American students. She has written chapters for several books including Mentoring at Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs): Theory, Design, Practice, and Impact (in press); Young, Triumphant, and Black: Overcoming the Tyranny of Segregated and Desegregated Minds; and Special Populations in Gifted Education: Understanding Our Most Able Students from Diverse Backgrounds. 

Dr. Floyd joins NAGC on August 1, 2018, from the Alabama Department of Education where she served as the State Gifted Education Specialist.
