The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) announced today that Matthew Makel will receive the 2017 Early Scholar Award at the NAGC 64th Annual Convention in Charlotte, NC, November 9-12, 2017.  Dr. Makel, Director of Research at Duke University, was selected for his contribution to scholarly work in support of gifted children.

“NAGC is committed to providing opportunities and resources to better understand and serve all gifted and talented children,” said M. René Islas, NAGC Executive Director. “The awards program shines a light on those who are making a difference in supporting gifted children as they reach to achieve their personal best.”

The Early Scholar Award is presented to those who are within 10 years of having received their doctorate and have made significant contributions through conducting and reporting research regarding the education of gifted and talented children. Our Early Scholars bring hope of better educational services for gifted students.

“It is a great honor to have my research recognized,” said Dr. Makel.  “I have always sought to understand better how academically talented students experience the world and how we can identify and serve their learning needs. I am deeply gratified that an organization like NAGC finds my work useful and noteworthy.”
