Players with the New Mexico Ice Wolves spoke with teachers, parents, and children about the importance of teamwork before “dropping the puck” to launch the bag stuffing event in preparation for the National Association for Gifted Children 66th Annual Convention (NAGC19), November 7-10, at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
The NAGC19 Opening Session will be held Thursday, November 7, 3 PM, MT (Watch Live). Lieutenant Governor Howie Morales is scheduled to speak with educators from around the state during the Leadership Forum earlier in the day, before he welcomes the nearly 2,000 attendees from around the country.
CBS News political contributor and producer Leslie Sanchez will lead the Giftedness Knows No Boundaries panel discussion with Jonathan Plucker, NAGC board president and the Julian C. Stanley Professor of Talent Development at Johns Hopkins University; Shawn Moore, former NFL player and dean of students at St. Albans in Washington, DC; and Haley Taylor Schlitz, a 16-year old SMU law student. They will offer research and personal anecdotes on ways to achieve equity in gifted education.
“We are excited to have the Lt. Governor, a former classroom teacher and proven leader who stands up for public education, join us at this important event,” said NAGC Executive Director John Segota.
Additionally, on Saturday the convention will host the popular Family Day on Saturday, November 9. More than 400 parents and children have registered for this free event will provide students with exciting and interactive programming led by the Center for Bright Kids, Fractal Foundation, and Destination Imagination, while parents learn more about the educational and social and emotional needs of their gifted children. The Family Day program includes a keynote session in the Kiva Auditorium with award-winning author Lisa Yee (Watch Live, 10:30 AM MT).
