The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) today announced Alissa Salazar Cress, Purdue University, will receive the 2019 NAGC Master’s and Specialist Award, presented by Kendall Hunt.

The Master’s and Specialist Award recognizes those who support gifted children in several areas while also furthering their own learning about the nature and needs of gifted students. 

“The NAGC awards program shines a light on those who are making a difference in supporting gifted children as they reach to achieve their personal best,” said Sally Krisel, NAGC Board President.

Salazar Cress has been instrumental in developing relationships for Purdue’s Gifted Education Research and Resource Institute (GERI) with several local schools, planning and delivering professional development. The High Ability Ed Camp was extremely successful in its first year and was expanded significantly to include more teacher in its second year.

“During my time in the Master’s program at Purdue, I made a commitment to promoting research-based practices in gifted education for students in all capacities,” said Salazar Cress. “I have enjoyed guiding pre-service teachers in their pursuit of high-quality teaching, encouraging in-service teachers’ effective use of differentiated classroom strategies, and helping parents meet the needs of their children with gifts and talents.”

Salazar Cress will be recognized at the NAGC 66th Annual Convention in Albuquerque, NM, November 7-10, 2019.
