The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) today announced the winners of the 2019 NAGC Carolyn Callahan Doctoral Student Award:

Jessa Luckey Goudelock, University of Georgia

Jaret Hodges, Duke University

Sareh Karami, Purdue University

The NAGC Carolyn Callahan Doctoral Student Award is presented to doctoral students who have demonstrated exemplary work in research, publications, and educational service, as well as for their potential for future scholarship. They will be recognized at the NAGC 66th Annual Convention in Albuquerque, NM, November 7-10, 2019.

“Research is critical to increasing the understanding of the unique needs of all gifted children,” said Sally Krisel, NAGC Board President. “These scholars are making a difference, and the Doctoral Student Award recognizes their efforts.”

Goudelock is a doctoral fellow at the University of Georgia, enrolled in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in gifted and creative education, interdisciplinary qualitative studies, and education law and policy.

Dr. Hodges received a Ph.D. in 2018 from Purdue University. His dissertation was an examination of underrepresentation in Florida, Indiana, and Washington. Dr. Hodges now serves as a postdoctoral associate with Duke TIP.

Karami is a doctoral fellow at Purdue University. She is an emerging scholar who has developed a theory of wisdom and explained giftedness from an Iranian perspective.
